Want to take steps for a greener company? Want to be able to add the ‘Going Green’ moniker to apartment advertisements? Don’t know what you can do when so much depends on the habits of your residents? Here are eight ideas to help you get started-

  1. Add a community garden - not only does this mean fresh produce for everyone involved, but it cuts down on food waste and emissions required to truck food across the country

  2. Caulk and seal up window cracks and air leaks - reduces energy that is spent on air conditioning and heating plus limits bugs that will find their way into your apartments

  3. Set your watering system to water the landscaping at night - this will limit how much water will evaporate, meaning you need to water less, and also saves your plants’ roots from scorching

  4. Install low-flow shower heads - you can’t give your residents a time limit on their showers, but you can limit the amount of water that comes out from the get-go

  5. Change the light bulbs - switching from fluorescent to LED’s saves a significant amount of energy

  6. Fix leaky faucets - which not only saves water but saves you on your water bill

  7. Offer compost and recycling services - our go-to idea of what it means to go green

  8. Go one step further and have a spot in your office where residents can drop off old batteries, electronics, cell phones, light bulbs, and water filters - all of these products should not be thrown away in the garbage but most people are too lazy to dispose of them correctly. Gather these items up and you can make a monthly trip to these different locations-

Batteries - IKEA, Whole Foods, Best Buy

Light bulbs - IKEA, Home Depot, Lowe’s

Electronics - Target, Best Buy, Walmart

Water Filters - mail to Terracycle or g2 revolution
