For the past nine years I have lived in a total of eight different apartment complexes. I’ve heard horror stories of having to wait months for a maintenance request to be filled, or the problem wasn’t fixed correctly, or no one ever came by to fix the problem. Cross my fingers that never happens to me. So far I’ve been lucky in regards to a positive maintenance experience. But hands down, the best maintenance man ever is Dennis. I’m sure I’m not the only one who would say this. Everyone who lives at that apartment complex loves Dennis. What made him so great? Maintenance problems were fixed quickly - we never had to wait more than two days. It seemed he knew how to fix everything and did it right the first time. More than that, though, he was easy-going, never frustrated by a difficult problem or with work piling up. He was never too rushed to say ‘hi’ as he passed by residents or as he worked on the landscape. He was the sweetest man who, even though he was retired, wanted to stay busy, wanted to do his job well, and was never too busy to realize he was working with people and offer them encouragement after a demanding day of classes. It’s a difficult balance to master. A good maintenance man can be worth his weight in gold. I give a shout-out to Dennis and all others like him who make life that much better, especially in a busy apartment complex.
