Money. Money. Money. I feel like I talk about it a lot. Water. Water. Water. I wish I could talk about it more. As it is, most people don’t want to hear me talk about how we can save water, especially in a dry place like Utah that needs us to. But everyone loves to hear about how to save money. So in this article I’m killing two birds with one stone. Here are some lists of ways you as a landlord can save water in order to save money on your water bill- In Your Apartments Fix leaking faucets Use aerators in faucets - these are cheap! Install low-flow shower heads Fix running toilets Replace stuck toilet handles that keep toilet water running Place cistern displacement device in toilet tank Replace old toilets with a new dual flush toilet Insulate water pipes Keep an eye on the water bill for spikes in use as this may mean you have a leak In Your Yard Xeriscape your yard Water early in the morning Turn off automatic sprinklers on rainy days Check your sprinklers to make sure you aren’t watering pavement Use a drip system Use a rain barrel to collect water and use to water plants
Every little bit helps. If you are a landlord responsible for paying the water bill for your properties, any combination of these steps will help that water bill to go down. And you can tell your residents that you’re going green. Bonus points!
